Nazca

Sand Dunes

What a day!!

Its now 5.20pm Sunday Peru time. And i am staying at the Casa Andina Classic Nasca.

After the long flights on Saturday,  4 am came around fast. I must have gone out like a light.

My driver arrived at exactly 4.00am – then we went and picked up my guide – Carolina.

And off we set to drive 290 kms to Paracas in time for my boat ride out to Ballestas Islands about 20 kms of the main land. These are know as the mini-gaĺapagos.

There are lots of birds and by lots I mean – lots of types and lots of them. We also saw sea lions sunning themselves.

Great 2 hours trip. Enjoyed that and gave me some practice with the camera.

From Paracas we still had to drive another 200 plus kms to Nazca.

On the way, i sampled local Pisco a strong drink. Good job i was not driving after that, long day and hot misty day.I think i may have dozed off a few times.

Most of this afternoons drive was thru the waterless part of Peru. Because of the Andes – this part of Peru does not see rain.

The last rain in Lima was 20 years ago. The mountain ranges we drove over did not have a single blade of grass – or you could say it was weed free. Near the ocean – it was miles of sand but this part was rock.

As soon as you came down into the valley and rivers – it was green again

I have been out the back in Australia but this is so different.  Tonight i will try again to get some photos up on this site.

Tomorrow is another full on day. After sightseeing I have a 11 hour bus ride to Arequipa.

Question – will Bob Doze off again.

Come back tomorrow to find out.
