Fuzhou

Fuzhou-18

Went for a long walk this morning. Because of the heat during the day – I have now got into the habit of walking 6.00 am and getting back before it gets too hot.

Ruth had shown me how to get to the “Fu Forest Trail” – now I can hear you thinking a Forest trail.

This is like nothing you have ever seen before. It should be called a forest skywalk.

It runs for a total of 19 Kms up and along this forest range or hill. At the highest point I was at 211 mts above sea-level. It is built very much like a rollercoaster  but with a walking platform that is wide enough for 4 – 5 people.  And talk about busy – it was being used by hundreds of locals and one foreign guy. Yes in all my walks this week – I have not seen another non Chinese person.

Non sure why – cause Fuzhou is a beautiful city with lots of green space and trees.

My usual morning walk is along the river -” Long corridor of Fuzhou Celebrities and their sayings”  It is 1.8 kms long and the first date starts at 903 and goes thru to 2000.

By the beach (a sand area along part of the river) each morning I see older men flying their kites – but these are all shaped like birds and the first time I saw them – I thought they were birds.

Lots of people exercising along the way all ages  some in groups and some like me – solo walkers

By the way – Ruth is not a morning person so is busy at home while I am out walking. We do go out at night when the sun has gone down.

It is very safe walking by yourself here in Fuzhou – only time you need to watch out is on the footpath and crossing the road. Cars are not a problem – they use the road BUT  eScooters do not seem to have any rules – they go on the road, in the special scooter lanes and on the footpath AND that means any way. So if the scooter lane is for going south – you will see scooters going the wrong way. On pedestrian crossing – the green light is the signal for all scooters and people to go  but which way – as you are walking across – you will have scooters going with you and scooters coming at you and scooters going across the flow and just because we have the green light does not stop the scooters who should be waiting for their green light from jumping the red light. Got to have eyes every way.

Ruth and I have now done the trail from her end right thru to the other side. It was then a short walk to West Lake Park. Took Ruth round the top end which she had never done. By the time we had finished that and lunch – it was a 118 bus back home and a nice cool shower.
