Montreal

chinatown

Today we are going to Montreal via Train.

11.30 am we are off. the seats are much better than Air Canada’s seats. Plenty of leg room t oo. Train speed was not great – guess we were at 100 plus km’s per hour – whole trip was 6 hours and we were 15 minutes late.

When we picked up our bag – and made  our way outside – time to find a taxi to take us to our airbnb. We tried to flag down two taxis but no joy.  We saw that we were next door to a hotel – The Queen Elizabeth Hotel –  so we asked the porter guy to help us. No problem – he just stepped out onto the road and a taxi had to stop. It was not far but was good not to have to work out how far to walk.

Our airbnb is basic – but thats okay – we have just had four nights in 4 star hotel.

We decided to walk back to the train station to get maps etc and to work out how far. About 15 minutes walk. Got our maps and started to look for somewhere to eat. Ruth wanted French – but when we found one – guess who had just won the World Cup. Yes and the noise was so load we gave that a miss and went to a Portuguese one instead. Talk about fine dinning.  Silver service – the whole works.

Ruth ordered her favourite – seafood and I ordered a veggie rissotto. checked out the wine list – All imported wine – ranging from can $ 150 to $3500.00 per bottle. Guess which one I had. – yes it was the one that cost me $19.00 per glass.

When the time to service our food – out comes two big plates with servicing spoons. but no food.  A couple of minutes later – out comes two cooking pots and they were put down by us. The waiter opens the one near Ruth and takes her plate closer – and starts to serve up her meal from the pot and did the same for me. As we started to finish the plate – he gave us both another helping from our pots. He could tell we enjoyed it because we cleaned each pot and plate completely.

Dessert was also to die for. check out the photos.

When paying there eftpos machine automatically added the taxes and a 15% tip. Not sure I agree with tipping. Staff should be pàid a proper wage and not expect the customers to tip. Thats just me.

Nice walk home to our airbnb didn’t make it to 10000 steps but not far off it.
