Arequipa again

Condor

What a day.

6.30 am start to get to see the Condors flying as the air currents started to warm up. These birds are the heavyest bird to fly.

We got to the Condor viewing platforms by 7.30am. Condors nest on the cliff faces around the Colco canyon. It was not long before we saw a couple of birds testing the winds etc. They do a few circles then return to their nest. This went on for the next hour with other birds doing the same. They got higher and closer to were i was standing. I was happy with my shots so decided to more to another platform.

My next group of photos were even better than my other shots. A male adult started to circle and was getting closer to us.

I belief I got the money shot – the bird flying above me – looking at me – (dreamer) 😊

After this we returned to Chivay for lunch. Got many pics of the canyon – this is the deepest in the world at 3400 metres.

The trip back to Arequipa was slow and long. Back over the big hills 4910 metres again but did not stop this time – got into city at rush hour. Interesting is all I will say.

Tomorrow off to Trujillo. Bit worried about the Chile earthquake and the tsuman warning – they have talked about the wave hitting Peru and Trujillo is on the coast and the children live in an area very near the ocean.

I will find out tomorrow.

Chau for now.
